Celebration of Life
for BLD Decor & Scenery
Scope:
This was a private event, produced on behalf of the (very much alive to enjoy it) guest of honour's very closest friends. It was intended as an entirely hedonistic celebration of his life and achievements.
With the rare opportunity to propose over-the-top creative in all aspects of decor, entertainment, catering and service, I was engaged as creative director, responsible for overall concepts, detail design, direction and production of the decor and ambient entertainment.
For a guest group of 150, an intimate, fully theatrical private club experience was proposed, with five acts. The entire venue (the Commodore Ballroom) was treated to cater to the event experience, from street entrance through to washrooms, including ceiling and stage dressings.
On arrival, guests were entertained with a rotation of exotic performances, five action station buffets operated by celebrity chefs, and four specialty top-shelf bars. Go-go stages and swings suspended from the ceiling featured Cirque de Soleil performers and burlesque dancers. Buffets and bars were hosted by body painted models, each coordinated with the menu and decor.
Following the dinner was a headline performance by one of the guest of honour's favourite performers, Jann Arden.
Following that performance, coffee and dessert was served as the next act, opening with a pageant that consisted of a painted model on a rolling platform, surrounded by a trough of fresh strawberries and flanked by the models from the buffets and entries. Two of the Cirque 'Strong Men' attended her with pitchers of warmed white and dark chocolate ganache, to drizzle over the model's 'fresh strawberries' for the guests.
This was followed by another headline performance by Burton Cummings. The evening then escalated into an outrageous no-holds-barred dance party, hosted by a renowned DJ. Guests, chefs, and performers took to the floor until the very wee hours.
